Introduction
PSL is organized by Pakistan. It is franchise cricket league administrated by PCB Pakistan Cricket Board. It was started back in 2016 to promote cricket activities in Pakistan. PSL was firstly played in UAE, due to security issues in Pakistan. Now it is moved completely in Pakistan. PSL consists of total six teams till now. Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta and Multan, these are the cities who’s name is associated with team names.
Tournament format:
It is played
double round-robin format. Each team plays twice with other four teams. Top
four teams on points table plays playoffs. Two points are awarded to winning
team. Method of ranking teams on points table is according to their points and
run rate. If a two or more teams have same point, then they will be sorted run
rate wise.
Names of PSL teams:
PSL contains six teams associated with six cities of Pakistan. Firstly, there were five teams and one more team (Multan Sultans) was added later. Names PSL franchises are listed below:
- Karachi Kings
- Multan Sultans
- Quetta Gladiators
- Lahore Qalandars
- Peshawar Zalmi
- Islamabad United
Karachi Kings:
Karachi
Kings is named and based with Karachi city of Pakistan. Its owner is Salman
Iqbal, who is owner of ARY group. Imad Wasim is captain of Karachi Kings and John
Botha is coach. It was most expensive team of PSL.
Multan Sultans:
Multan
Sultans based by Punjab city Multan. Its owner is Ali Tareen s/o Jahangir
Tareen who is politician in Pakistan. It was sixth team added later in PSL.
Muhammad Rizwan is captain of Multan Sultans and coach is Andy Flower.
Quetta Gladiators:
Quetta
Gladiators is named by Quetta city of Baluchistan, Pakistan. Quetta Gladiators
is captained by Sarfraz Ahmad and coach is Moin Khan former Pakistani test
player. It is owned by Nadeem Omar.
Lahore Qalandars:
Lahore
Qalandars is based with Lahore city of Punjab, Pakistan. Its owner is Fawad
Rana and captained by Shaheen Shah Afridi. Former Pakistani cricketer Aqib
javed is coach of Lahore Qalandars. It is very famous franchise of PSL. It has
large number of fans.
Peshawar Zalmi:
Peshawar
Zalmi is named by KPK city Peshawar. Its owner is Javed Afridi. Babar Azam is
now captain of Peshawar Zalmi. Their head coach is Daren Sammy former cricketer
of West Indies. Peshawar Zalmi has large number of fan base.
Islamabad United:
Pakistan’s
Capital Islamabad is base of Islamabad United. Shadab Khan is captain of
Islamabad United. Azhar Mehmodd is head coach of Islamabad United. Islamabad
United home ground is located in Rawalpindi know as Pindi Cricket Stadium.
PSL every season Winners and Runner Up:
PSL 2016 champions were Islamabad United and runner up was Quetta Gladiators. Ravi Bopara was player of the tournament. PSL 2017 Champions were Peshawar Zalmi and runner up was Quetta Gladiators. Kamran Akmal was player of the tournament. PSL 2018 was hosted in Pakistan and UAE. Champions were Islamabad United and runner up was Peshawar Zalmi. Luke Ronchi was announced player of tournament also most run scorer of PSL 2018. PSL 2019 was played in Pakistan and UAE organized by PCB. This time Quetta Gladiators was champions after becoming two time runner up.
Peshawar Zalmi like PSL 2018 again ended their campaign at second position. After four unsuccessful PSL season, finally Karachi Kings became champion of PSL 2020. They beat Lahore Qalandars in final of PSL 2020. Babar Azam was player of the tournament also highest run scorer of PSL 2020. PSL 2021 was played in UAE and Pakistan. This time there were new champion. Multan Sultans grabbed first title of their PSL journey. Peshawar Zalmi one time champions second the table. Sohaib Maqsood was declared player of the tournament and Babar Azam was top run scorer.
For first time whole PSL 2022 was played in
Pakistan. Lahore Qalandars won first title of PSL. Shaheen Shah Afridi was
leading the Lahore squad. PSL 2021 champions this time ended their tournament
at second spot. Muhammd Rizwan was player of the tournament and Fakhar Zaman
was top run scorer with Shaheen leading wicket taker of season. PSL 2023 is
stared from 13 February, which will be played in Pakistan. Six teams
participating in tournament for title.

season 8 is being played. Here are some initial updates for highest wicket
taker and most run scorer.
Most run scorer:
Muhammd
Rizwan representing Multan Sultans is most run scorer of PSL 8 (currently).
Rizwan scored 358 runs at average of 89.50 in 6 matches.
Highest wicket taker:
Ihsanullah
is highest wicket taker representing Multan Sultans (currently). He has taken
14 wickets in 6 matches with economy of 5.54.
Highest individual run scorer:
Martin
Guptill has highest individual score in PSL 8. He played ininnings of 117 of 67
balls against Karachi Kings.
Best bowling figure:
Ihsanullah
has the best bowling figure for PSL 8. He took 5 wickets for 12 runs against
Quetta Gladiators at Multan Cricket stadium.
